What does the reverse text tool do?
Reversing text sounds trivial until you meet real-world input. A naive string reversal in JavaScript (str.split("").reverse().join("")) breaks emoji into broken surrogate halves, separates accents from their letters and turns a family emoji into three separate people. This tool reverses by grapheme cluster — what a reader sees as one character — using the browser's Intl.Segmenter, so 👋🏽 and é survive intact.
Six modes cover the common jobs: reverse every character, reverse the order of words, reverse each word while keeping word order, reverse the order of lines, flip text upside down with Unicode look-alike characters, or mirror it. Line breaks are preserved wherever it makes sense, so multi-line lists stay lists.
People use it for puzzles and word games, testing palindromes, checking how a UI handles right-to-left-looking strings, reversing log files or CSV rows so the newest entry comes first, and creating playful social media posts. Everything runs locally in your browser.
How to use the Reverse Text
- Type or paste your text into the input box, or click Sample to try it.
- Choose a Mode — for example Reverse line order to flip a list or Upside-down text for a fun post.
- For character and upside-down modes, decide whether to keep the line order or reverse the whole block.
- Copy or download the result. Click Use as input to chain another transformation.
Example
The same input in four modes:
Input: Hello world 👋🏽
Reverse characters: 👋🏽 dlrow olleH (a code-point reverse would give 🏽👋)
Reverse each word: olleH dlrow 👋🏽
Reverse word order: 👋🏽 world Hello
Upside down: 👋🏽 plɹoʍ ollǝHHow upside-down and mirror text work
There is no "upside-down font" in Unicode. Instead, each letter is swapped for a different character that happens to look like it rotated by 180° — a becomes ɐ, e becomes ǝ, h becomes ɥ — and the string is reversed so it reads correctly when the screen is turned around. Mirror text does the same with horizontally flipped look-alikes such as Я for R.
Because these are real characters, the result can be pasted anywhere that accepts Unicode. Some fonts lack a few of the rarer glyphs, and screen readers will read the substitute characters literally, so avoid it for important information. Running upside-down text through the tool again converts it back.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will reversing break emoji or accented letters?
No. The tool splits text into grapheme clusters with Intl.Segmenter, so emoji with skin tones, flags, ZWJ sequences and combining accents are kept as single characters. Older browsers use a built-in fallback that handles the common cases.
How do I reverse the order of lines in a list?
Choose Reverse line order. The last line becomes the first and each line is left unchanged. To sort lines alphabetically instead, use Sort Lines.
Can I turn upside-down text back to normal?
Yes. Paste the upside-down text and choose Upside-down text again — the character map works in both directions.
How do I check whether a word is a palindrome?
Reverse its characters and compare. For phrases, first remove spaces and punctuation and make the case consistent with the Case Converter and Text Cleaner.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. All processing happens in your browser; nothing is uploaded or stored.
